Jensen and Shaunell were officially our first 2020 wedding we booked- they originally contacted us and we did their engagement session in the fall of 2018! I vividly remember thinking “oh man, this is ages away” but the time came quicker than quick, and we’re so excited to hang out with them again when we did their Marysville Michigan Wedding Photography for their wedding day. Taylor and Justin are another beautiful couple we had the opportunity to get to know when we photographed her sister’s wedding up in Alpena. Last June, Courtney traveled all the way to Illinois (where Taylor and Justin live) and had a blast doing their Chicago engagement photography session, while Megan stayed home with her 5 day old baby at the time. Their wedding was planned for June 2020 at the Inn at St. John’s. But then, 2020 basically fell apart, and the two of them began planning their post- covid wedding in Michigan, elopement style. And the awesome news is, we get to see them next July again, because the plan is to do it all in front of their large group of family and friends next year.
Their tiny wedding was beautiful. They both got ready at Justin’s parent’s home in Livonia, and then took the party bus over to the church for their religious ceremony. The ceremony itself only took about 10 minutes, and then we were off to take some photos on the grounds, and then a nearby park. When we pulled into the parking lot at the park, the sky seriously opened up and it started downpour raining. We kept dancing in the bus, and waited for the rain to pass. It moved through quickly, and we were able to capture some stunning images of the wedding party, as well as the happy (now married!) couple.
After that, they took off on the bus and headed back to Justin’s childhood home for a small dinner that was set up in the living and dining room. Taylor decorated that area entirely herself, and nailed all the beautiful details, from the greenery on the table to the hand written seating cards. We also really loved the antique china place setting, and thought that it added a beautiful element, and a touch of personalization that is unique to them too.
We hope you enjoy this small glimpse into Taylor and Justin’s post- covid wedding in Michigan, and cannot wait to hang out with them all again next year and watch them celebrate their special love story that even a global pandemic couldn’t take down. If you’re in the same boat and want someone to document your wedding day, we would love to chat.
You may remember Amber and Michael from their beautiful Lapeer County engagement session that we did on her parent’s property in Metamora. Amber and Michael’s wedding was originally scheduled for mid-May, but then 2020 happened, and…well, plans hit the fan (and exploded into 70 billion little pieces.) Since the entire state was still shut down in May, they decided to postpone their large wedding at their original venue, and return to her parent’s property and do a Michigan tiny wedding instead. We’re excited to introduce you to Alyssa and Joe, and show you some of our favorite images from their Lapeer Michigan engagement photography session. We first met the two of them at the Solitude Links bridal tasting event, where Mulberry & Sage always has a booth. We love being a preferred vendor for Solutide Links, and we meet so many awesome couples through their various events throughout the year. (We’ll be there again in May for their annual bridal show!) Anyway, we met the two of them because we ended up being placed at their table for dinner (which was delicious, per the usual.) We all got to chatting, and we fell in love with the two of them and their love story. One of Alyssa’s biggest questions was whether we had ever done a multi-cultural wedding before. That peaked our interest, because we love new things, and learning all about new traditions that we may not see all the time. Alyssa is Macedonian, and plans to have a day chock full of their traditions, which we learned a bit about, and we CANNOT WAIT to capture. One of the coolest parts is that Joe gets to parade down the street. A wedding with a parade? Yes, please.
While the wedding day may be full of Alyssa’s traditions, the engagement session really felt like we captured Joe’s heritage. His uncle owns a stunning “cottage” (their words. Most definitely not ours.) in Lapeer County, and we couldn’t believe it when we pulled up. It felt like a property that was straight out of Frankenmuth; the charm was unbelievable. It had lots of property to explore, and the home that overlooked a lake was seriously beautiful. It looked and felt so German to us; like straight out of Bavaria. It was, however, one of the coldest days of the year thus far, and the two of them handled it like champs (especially Alyssa, who never once complained, and braved the elements for over an hour!) Joe grew up hanging out with his uncle and cousins on this property, and had so many great stories of hunting up there, and so many funny tales of family bonding times. We love that the winter feel matched the buildings perfectly, and that there was snow on the ground, to boot.
We literally cannot wait until their November 2020 wedding, and to see all the love and fireworks between the two of them all over again. We hope you enjoy this preview into their Lapeer engagement photography session. We’d love to chat if you’re in the market for a Lapeer or Kimball wedding photographer.
We met up with Juliah and Anthony earlier in the fall when they contacted us to be their Port Huron City Flats wedding photographer team. We have quite a few City Flats Hotel weddings booked for 2020, and we can’t wait to get back into that awesome venue and document some amazing love stories in a place that’s near and dear to our hearts: Downtown Port Huron. Juliah and Anthony met in nursing school at University of Michigan Flint. She recently graduated, and Anthony is expected to finish up his program within the next few months, too. They have a fun love, that’s natural to be around. And for a couple that once claimed to be “awkward” in front of the camera, they seriously nailed it and looked like naturals. We knew that they wanted to do an engagement session once the busy fall season settled down, and we decided that December would be the perfect month for them (and us!) because both our schedules calmed down quite a bit. We threw out some ideas for a Christmas tree farm, which is fun in December for obvious reasons, but Courtney had a special place tucked away up her sleeve that she hadn’t used to do an evening session yet, but we knew it had large pine trees, and we figured that a Evergreen engagement session was the perfect theme for their December photo session.
What we didn’t count on though was unseasonably warm weather; it was literally almost 55 degrees when we met them for the evening, and the golden sun was so beautiful. Juliah’s red formal gown and white fur stole started off the evening, and mixed with Anthony’s dapper looking vest and coordinating tie, it was like a magical and sunny session, right in the middle of “winter” in Michigan. As much as we had secretly been hoping for some snow, mother nature decided to one-up us, and gifted us with the most beautiful sun and sunset that shone through the trees, and made Juliah’s long beautiful hair look magical, and all their sweet embraces and snuggles glow.
We’re so excited for their August City Flats wedding, and hope you enjoy this preview into their Evergreen engagement session. If you’re newly engaged, we still have some 2020 and 2021 dates available, and would love to get together with you and learn more about your love story, and get you in front of our lenses for some winter time magic, too. Shoot us an email, we’d love to connect!
