Chicago Engagement Photography | Taylor & Justin

    Chicago engagement photographer

We originally met Taylor last September through her sister Ashley. Taylor was Ashley’s maid of honor, so she really got to know us as we all hung out together for the day in Alpena. She truly knows what she’s getting in to with us, and we love that when it was time to choose her own Detroit wedding photographer, she instantly contacted Mulberry & Sage. Taylor and her fiance Justin currently live in Chicago, so last weekend, Courtney trekked over to the windy city to do their Chicago Engagement Photography session.

We originally video chatted with them for their initial consultation, because that’s what we will do when the client is out of town, or if our schedules don’t align for an in-person meeting. They are getting married in 2020 at the Inn at St. Johns, but since they live in Chicago together, it was important to incorporate that aspect into their Chicago Engagement Photography session. Justin is from Farmington Hills, and Taylor is from up north. They were both living on the east coast in Boston for a while, and have since settled down in Chicago. Have I mentioned yet that we love to travel, and literally jump at the opportunity to do it whenever possible? We went up to Alpena for her sister’s wedding, so it seemed fitting to travel to Chicago for Taylor’s.

Taylor and Justin laugh a lot together, and have an easy and simple relationship that was beautiful and natural to photograph. They love spending time together, meeting friends for drinks, the beach in the summer, and having donuts from BomboBar as often as they possibly can. Taylor is obsessed, and loves introducing it to all of their out of town guests. Hopefully, they will also be serving them at their Detroit wedding! We can attest that they are seriously amazing.

We hope you enjoy looking at our trip hanging out in the windy city for Taylor and Justin’s Chicago Engagement Photography session. We’d love to explore the globe & document your love story, too! For real. Try us.

Rustic Theme Engagement Session | Lisa & Matt

    rustic theme engagement session

Lisa and Matt booked Mulberry & Sage Photography earlier this year to be their upcoming Shelby Gardens Wedding Photography team, and in meeting with them, we got to learn about their relationship, and love for each other, and their adorable furry children. Matt and Lisa have two dogs: Mia and Bella, and wanted to schedule a rustic theme engagement session for the spring time to get a photo they can use on their save the date card.

In Michigan in the spring time, the weather can be super hit or miss, and we luckily dodged the rain (by maybe 20 minutes!) on the evening of their scheduled Rustic Theme Engagement Session. While all the foliage is just on the verge of emerging for the spring, everything is still pretty brown and bare, so we were thrilled when Lisa and Matt wanted to add a splash of color into it and embrace the spring weather right along with us. Every season and every session has something unique and fun to offer, and we love couples that roll with the flow and appease our (sometimes crazy) ideas (that may or may not involve ladders and tons of PDA.)

Mia and Bella brought their A- Game and loved being included into the photos. We loved commenting about how they appear to be smiling in the photos, as if they are so proud of their parents and their wedding bells scheduled for this September. Their wedding is scheduled to take place at the Shelby Gardens Banquet & Events Center, in Shelby Township, Michigan. We know that they will be adding in lots of flair and fun aspects to make their wedding unique and fun. Their colors are blush/rose gold and navy blue, and we love how they subtly wore those very colors to their Rustic Theme Engagement Session to incorporate them into it.

We love when couples are open to ideas and suggestions for those tricky outdoor engagement sessions in the chilly months, and love how willing and excited Matt and Lisa were for their engagement session. The rustic theme of the barns and the fields and trail was perfect for their laid-back and fun loving attitude towards each other, and we were all cracking up the entire time. We hope you enjoy this small preview into their Rustic Theme Engagement Session in Clyde, Michigan. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer, we still have some 2019 dates available, and are also quickly booking into 2020; we’d love to discuss how Mulberry & Sage can be your ultimate photography team.

Solitude Links Wedding Photographer | Theresa & Matt

Solitude Links Golf Course Wedding Photographer

We waited anxiously all year for Theresa and Matt’s early November wedding, for when they hired Mulberry & Sage Photography to be their Solitude Links Wedding Photographer team for the day. You may remember this couple from earlier this year when we spent the afternoon doing their engagement session in the early spring. We first met Theresa and Matt at the Bridal Expo that we participated in back in January. We knew that their wedding at Solitude Links Golf Course in Kimball was going to be our last official wedding of the season, and couldn’t wait to spend the day with the two of them and see all the hard work that they had put into the day come together for an amazing finale.

Matt and Theresa met 7 years ago at a “drinking establishment” and have been together and unstoppable ever since. They are truly perfect for each other, and compliment each other nicely. Both of them were very laid back on their wedding day, and were up for pretty much anything; even if that meant enduring the frigid cold for photos outdoors in the early evening before the sun went down. Since Courtney was 8+ months pregnant, we had Serena step in and act as my right hand lady, and she quickly got a crash course on how to operate a golf cart properly, and the 4 of us were able to trek into the back part of the course for portraits of the two of them, and we even got to have some snow on the ground, too. As always, we love (LOVE) working with Solitude Links, and love being one of their preferred vendors, and their management and wait staff are always delightful to coordinate all the small details with. (Not to mention, the food is always amazing there. Those things matter!)

Matt and Theresa tied the knot officially around sunset, and then we headed into their fun reception area which was decorated impeccably to the nines with fall decor.  The deep red hues of the bridesmaid’s dresses, and the pumpkins and other rustic decor all coordinated with the bright wooden ambiance of the venue, and it was the perfect marriage of elegance and country-chic.

We hope you enjoy this small preview into Matt and Theresa’s wedding day where we had a great time being their Solitude Links Wedding Photographer team. If you’re getting married in the Port Huron area and need a wedding photographer for 2019 or 2020, we would love to connect with you!

Vale Royal Barn Wedding Photographer | Alyse & Paul

Vale Royal Wedding Barn Wedding Photographer

Alyse and Paul hold a special place in our hearts, because their sense of humor and love for all things animals speaks deeply to our soul. We spent all year anxiously anticipating being their October Vale Royal Wedding Barn Wedding Photographer team, and when the day finally came, it was everything that we ever imagined- and more. Alyse and Paul have a very special bond that we love; Paul’s sense of humor had us seriously snort-laughing all day and night, along with 90% of their guests, too. Their promises to each other will forever go down in history as some of the most unique and hysterical “vows” ever, in the history of ever. Their entire wedding was unique, and perfect for them, from their “flower helper” dressed in lederhosen to the “exile table” they created for a special friend to sit completely alone, just to mess with him. And Alyse and Paul are far from traditional; their favorite part of the day was their petting zoo that they had come during cocktail hour (and, it all kind of came full circle, because this was the same couple that joined us for their engagement session on the farm, and wanted to pose with the cows and horses!)  All the details were classic and true to them, as a couple, and totally fit the beautiful venue, and their beautiful love.

Paul loves Alyse like crazy, and it’s so obvious that it’s returned back at him when you see the two of them together. We also heard a few times that Paul really loves his newfound health insurance that he inherited when they tied the knot- but that rumor has yet to be confirmed, nor denied. The entire day was threatening downpour rains, however, Alyse seriously willed it away with her brain, like a superhero. It only started to rain at the very end of the night once everyone was safely tucked inside the barn and eating dinner. At that point, we couldn’t resist pulling them outdoors with an umbrella to try a shot that we’ve been itching to do for the past year- and we are so thrilled with how it turned out, and it’s easily a favorite of the entire day.

We hope you enjoy this small preview into when we were their Vale Royal Wedding Barn Wedding Photographer team. If you are looking for a Fenton Michigan wedding photographer, we would love to connect with you!

Macomb County Elopement Photographer | Andrea & Anthony

    Macomb County Elopement Photographer

A couple weeks ago on a windy Friday afternoon, we got the chance to hang out with Andrea and Anthony while we were their Macomb County Elopement Photographer. I had gotten the chance to speak with Andrea a bit via Facebook to know that she and Anthony were excitedly planning a fun Friday elopement at the New Baltimore Court House, and then had dinner reservations shortly thereafter with their closest family members to celebrate the fact that they had tied the knot. Anthony told me that originally, they had wanted to sneak off to a place like Las Vegas, but that timing just didn’t work out in their favor, so the courthouse provided the intimate setting that they wanted.

Andrea looked beautiful that day, and her hair perfectly matched her white dress that was ideal for their intimate elopement. I’m not really sure if it was her intent or not, but I got some serious vintage vibes from the dress and hair updo, and the photos of her rocking it with her cat-eye shaped sunglasses on the beach are some of my ultimate favorite of the afternoon. The courthouse wedding with off without a hitch, and even the judge was complimenting the couple for their great outfit choices, as well as their doting guests that came to witness the event. Their daughter, Mabel, gave me a run for my money with photos. I’m not often defeated by toddler willpower, but ultimately, she was not in the mood for the photos at all. I didn’t include it here in the blog, however, one of my favorite family photos is of the entire group, and Anthony is dangling Mabel upside down and, if you look super close, she has a little smile on her face. Ha! Anthony and Andrea met through Andrea’s cousin (who is Anthony’s close friend) and were on a boat the first time they met. While they went to the same high school growing up,  they met at the perfect time in their lives, down the road.

Speaking of high school, we decided to head out of the wood-paneled courtroom and down to the beach in New Baltimore, however, we weren’t alone in that thought. That same day, Anchor Bay High School (the HS they both attended) was having their homecoming parade, so all the streets were blocked off, and there were about 7 million people (I’m a chronic over-exaggerator) walking around down there, so the angles and locations we chose were strategic. The afternoon was perfect, and we loved being their Macomb County Elopement Photographer for the day. We hope you enjoy this small glimpse into their special day, and if you’re looking for a wedding or elopement photographer, we would love to chat.
