A Polar Vortex Winter Engagement Session | Katie & Josh

    Winter Engagement Session

Josh has known Courtney for quite a long time, and we were thrilled when they contacted us to be their 2019 Michigan wedding photography team. They wanted to also do an engagement session to use for their save the date cards, and we set up their Winter Engagement Session on the scheduling books for late January. The time came around, and, Michigan being what it is, we were greeted with the coldest days known to mankind during the week of their session. We quickly brainstormed some indoor photography options around the downtown Port Huron area, and came up with some great places that also hold sentimental value to the two of them. Katie told us that she was going to wear a formal gown, and so our minds immediately went to inside the Ladies of the Maccabees building, conveniently where our photography studio is located. The lobby has an old school charm and has the original tile flooring, a beautiful wooden banister, and marble walls. I wish we could also find a way to capture all the details that this old building really has- including the original crown molding that is huge and detailed in the charming early 1900’s way.

We also did a couple photos outside on the steps of that building, and the sun was shining and it made us forget that the windchill was negative twenty degrees. From there, we headed over the The Vintage Tavern, which holds a special place in their heart because that’s actually where Josh proposed to Katie. They love going there when they get their date nights, and the old building is beautiful on the inside. We always suggest incorporating a shared interest into your engagement session, so kicking back and having a wine and a beer during their winter engagement session was my favorite part of it, because it captured some totally natural and organic moments shared between the two of them, that were full of love.

We can’t wait until their September 2019 fall wedding, and hope you enjoy this small preview into their winter engagement session. We always recommend an engagement session with us prior to your wedding, because it gives us the perfect opportunity to get to know each other and hang out before your big day. We would love to connect with you, if you’re looking for a 2019 or 2020 Michigan wedding photographer team.

  • East Lansing Wedding Photographer | Lauren & Brennan

East Lansing Wedding Photographer | Lauren & Brennan

    East Lansing Wedding Photographer

Last weekend, we got the amazing opportunity to be Lauren and Brennan’s East Lansing Wedding Photographer team for the day. Lauren contacted us back in March and reserved her late fall date with us to capture her wedding at Michigan State University, and we knew right away that it was going to be great, but we didn’t know just *how* great it would turn out. It’s our last wedding for the 2017 season, and it ended with a total bang.

We arrived in East Lansing and were able to spend the morning watching the girls get transformed by their amazing glam squad, and take some fun bridesmaids photos in their cute matching robes. We loved that, even from the beginning, every single detail was planned out, from the customized and sentimental (yet humorous) hankies, to the gifts that the bride and groom gave each other that were unique and personalized to their soon-to-be-life-partner. Brennan gifted Lauren a beautiful pair of pearl earrings that matched her necklace perfectly, and Lauren gave Brennan a personalized beer mug, and a watch. We loved seeing the sweet emotion from Lauren when she read the card that Brennan wrote. In fact, there were emotions everywhere, and it was awesome. Her Dad cried when he saw her for the first time, as well as walking her down the aisle. Her bridesmaids were dabbing tears all day. It was seriously beautiful to witness, as well as photograph.

Lauren and Brennan were married (with Brennan’s grandfather as the officiant) at the Alumni Chapel on the Michigan State University campus. It was a sentimental ceremony, and was jam packed with people that, you could tell, adored them both. Afterwards, Brennan and Lauren surprised their bridal party with the grand announcement/secret that they had been keeping: we were going on the field at Spartan Stadium to take portraits. It was like watching a kid in a candy store; and the level of excitement was off the hook. And when we were finished there, we headed to the Spartan statue on campus for some photos as well.

We loved how their green and white theme really was everywhere, from the stunning floral to the up-lighting at their reception hall. Their small details, such as the large wooden cutout shape of Michigan in lieu of a guest book, really displayed their love for each other, as well as the importance of the college where they met each other. We had a blast photographing their wedding, and loved their bridal party Wobble dance, as well as the non-stop energy on the dance floor.

We hope you love this very small preview into the day we spent being Lauren and Brennan’sĀ East Lansing Wedding Photographer team. We love being Eastern Michigan wedding photographers, and traveling to various locations across the state (and country!) If you’re in the market for a wedding photographer, we’d love to connect with you and learn more about your special day that’s unique to you and your fiance.

Port Huron Yacht Club Wedding Photographer

One of the best parts of booking your Port Huron wedding with Mulberry & Sage Photography is the teamwork mentality and aspect we bring to the table. You may remember from yesterday’s blog post that Courtney photographed a beautiful wedding on Saturday in Port Huron. Well, Megan and Kathryn spent the day on Saturday being Liz and Jordan’sĀ Port Huron Yacht Club Wedding Photographer team, and it was a gorgeous day (amidst the down-pour rain all day!) full of love, happiness, and laughter.

Liz and Jordan are a fun loving couple, but we think we portrayed that perfectly with their engagement sessionĀ that we photographed earlier this year. Their wedding was supposed to be outdoors at the Port Huron Yacht Club, however, with the rain coming down, it was moved last minute indoors. Everyone was super cool with it though, and adapted perfectly to the last minute change. Drinking good beer and liquor is a big tradition for Liz and Jordan, so it didn’t surprise us at all when we arrived to photograph the guys getting ready that they were getting ready to pour out a shot from a bottle of Hennessy that was saved specifically for a special occasion for more than 20 years, or the fact that Liz and her bridesmaids insisted on doing photos in the bar at Freighter’s before heading over to the yacht club. But that’s what makes our job so fun: showcasing the special details of everyone’s special day, and what’s important to them, specifically.

Capturing the small details that Liz worked so hard on was really important to her, as well as Jordan’s reaction to when she walked down the aisle. And Jordan didn’t disappoint! He dabbed away tears and everyone in the room could see just how much he loved and cherished his bride. The room upstairs was decorated beautifully, and we had a blast celebrating their reception and capturing many sweet and tender, as well as hysterical, moments with them there, as well.

We hope you love this small glimpse into when we were Liz & Jordan’s Port Huron Yacht Club Wedding Photographer team. If you’re looking for a Michigan wedding photographer, we’d love to connect, and you can email us atĀ hello@mulberryandsage.com

Black River Country Club Wedding Photographer | Jessica & Chris

Black River Country Club Wedding Photographer

We spent a wet and rainy Saturday with Chris and JessicaĀ being their Black River Country ClubĀ Wedding Photographer for the day.Ā  If you want to judge a couple’s strengths and true personalities, let it pour rain allllll day long on theirĀ perfectly-planned fall wedding. Chris and Jessica were the best; no dampened spirits, and nothing could take away from their excitement. Even with a last minute decision to move their ceremony into the reception venue, weĀ never heard a single complaint. That is how we know that they are a great match, and it was an honor to witness the love they share.

Jessica made many of the decorations and our favorite wasĀ the corsage for her grandmother. Her grandpa passed away last year and Jessica added a photo of her grandparents on their wedding day to the corsage. That way he could be there in spirit. It wasĀ such a heartfelt moment to capture as she gave it to her grandmother.Ā Ā Jessica is just so thoughtful like that. It was evident in many of the little touches around the room. We also lovedĀ how she surprised Chris, an avid star wars fan, with not only the coolest cuff-links we’ve ever seen, but also a grooms cake-an awesome rendition of the millenium falcon.

Chris was completely smitten with his bride, something that we love to see. His reaction to seeing her walk down the aisle was something all brides dream of. He was visibly blown away. Jessica was stunning. HeĀ could not take his eyes off herĀ all night and we think he sang every word of their first dance to her. It was like they were the only ones in the room. Also, while we are on the topic of dancing, Chris surprised his mom with Cotton Eyed Joe as their first dance song-for about one minute anyways. It was an inside joke between them and her reaction was priceless!

Since it rained all day with not a single break we had to think quick for a location for photos after the ceremony. We have to give a big thank you to Tonya, the event planner at Tio Gordos restaurant.Ā Ā They came through for us and shuffled their parties around to go out of their way to accommodate our wedding party. If you haven’t seen their event space yet, you should check it out. Building relationships across Port Huron is very important to us, and something we pride ourselves in doing to offer the very best experience for any couple that books with Mulberry & Sage Photography.

We are thrilled that you choose us as your Black River Country ClubĀ Wedding Photographer. If you’re getting married and looking for a Port Huron wedding photographer, we’d love to connect.Ā We hope you love this small preview into Jessica & Chris’ wedding day.

  • Professional Port Huron Photographer | Jenny & John

Professional Port Huron Photographer | Jenny & John

    Professional Port Huron Photographer

Last weekend, we spent the evening exploring Beard’s Hill with Jenny and John, being theirĀ Professional Port Huron Photographer. Jenny and John met when they were in high school, and have been together ever since. They have a super fun and goofy relationship with each other, and we loved being able to capture it and document their playfulness during their engagement photography session.

Fall in Michigan is a favorite of ours. While we love being on the beach during the ultra-hot days of summer, there is just something special about putting on a cozy sweater and stepping outside into the brisk fall weather. This year, we have actually had a really hot fall, thus far, however, on the day of Jenny and John’s engagement session, there was a small break from the 90 degree days, and it felt like actual, legit fall weather. (Yay!) We planned to do a sunset session up at Beard’s Hill, which provides a stunning location for a session because it’s so varied. We started out by the hiking trails and stream, and got some beautiful photos of the two of them with big giant sun rays peeking through the large trees.

We then drove up to another location within the same area, that has a large tree overhanging the river that John really liked. As I was having a fun idea for a pose that came to my mind, I asked them to sit down next to a wall that had some street art painted on it. As they were about to sit, John kicked at the ground and said, “Oops, here’s a small snake.” Like a rockstar, Jenny didn’t even hesitate to sit down right afterward and when I commended her for her bravery, she stated, “Snakes don’t bother me. Spiders do.” I laughed because I am actually the exact same way. We spent a few minutes hanging out doing photos in that spot, when I looked into my camera viewfinder to see a GIGANTIC black and yellow spider, perched precariously inches away from her head. Being not-great with hiding things, I gasped loudly and told her calmly to get up quickly, without turning her head. After she did that, she looked back and we both had our own dramatic freak out moment. I’m sure it’s something we’ll look back on and laugh about soon. But, needless to say, Jenny gets some major kudos for being adventurous and calm in the face of danger.

We ended the session as the sun went down at the top of the Beard Hill overlook. It literally feels like you’re on the top of the world, and can see the entire county from this vantage point. The trees were sun-kissed, and beginning to turn their various shades of yellow and reds for fall, and it was the perfect night for an engagement session in Port Huron. We always like to somehow incorporate the engagement ring into the elements of their engagement session, so it was perfectly fitting that John found a pretty weed that stood strong in the middle of the rocks, with a single pretty blue flower blooming proudly. It made for the perfect setting, and we really love the macro photography shot of that.

We hope you enjoy this small preview into Jenny & John’s engagement session where we were theirĀ Professional Port Huron Photographer. If you’re engaged, and looking for a wedding photographer in Michigan, we’d love to chat with you.
