When we look back on the 2020 wedding season, the wedding that stands out the most for me is Jenn and De’Ontre’s Michigan destination wedding. We did their Muskegon engagement photo session back in the summer of 2019, and were eagerly waiting for their end-of-May Michigan destination wedding for 2020 in Gladwin. I specifically remember Jen calling and saying the words, “I think all this stuff is going to be over by your wedding.” In true 2020 fashion, my optimism bit me in the butt and COVID-19 wasn’t even close to being “over” (and still isn’t, even in December.) Throughout the following 6 months between April and October, Jen and De’Ontre rescheduled three times, and had three entirely different venues, in three entirely different areas in Michigan.  (more…)

Caitlin and Dennis truly weathered the storm of 2020. They were actually one of our first couples booked for 2020, and they snagged the ultra-coveted date of 10-10-20. They were busy planning their Great Gatsby Wedding theme to invite 200+ of their friends and family from all over to celebrate with them, but since the indoor capacity was limited due to corona, they ended up switching it to Catilin’s parent’s backyard instead, and invited their immediate family only while some tuned in via livestream zoom.  (more…)

Gabi and Derek were a last minute addition for Mulberry & Sage this year and we’re so thrilled that we were able to step in and be their Holly Venue One Eleven Wedding Photographer team. Their wedding was at Venue One Eleven, which is a newer venue in the Holly Michigan area and part of the Holly Vault Collection.  (more…)

Aleesha and Derrick have been put through the 2020 ringer. Originally, they had something planned that looked much different. They were able to roll with the COVID-19 waves, and adjusted their wedding plans multiple times before coming up with the plan of having it all occur in their own neighborhood. That’s where their planning for their Michigan Backyard Wedding really took off; they were able to collaborate with their next door neighbor and put together a beautiful wedding full of love. You first met Hillary and David when we shot their downtown New Baltimore engagement session. Their September wedding was planned to take place at City Flats Port Huron, but COVID-19 had some other plans for their special day. Hillary and David met online, when Hillary was living in Ohio. She’d drive up on weekends and vacations and would spend time with David in his home in Chesterfield area. Hillary is originally from Hawai’i, and most of her family and friends are either abroad, or splattered across the United States. Because of all the travel restrictions for international travel, as well as coming to/from New York (where many of her friends are) they decided to scale back and do a unique Zoom Backyard wedding.  (more…)
