Metro Detroit Engagement Photographer | Alyse & Paul

We met Alyse on Saturday afternoon at a Starbucks in Macomb. She was referred to us by a fellow professional Metro Detroit engagement photographer, and we were excited to hear all about her upcoming October 2018 wedding in Fenton.

As we were driving up, we giggled that her venue, the Vale Royal Barn, looked stunning, and, if she liked rustic and country, we were her perfect professional photography team. You see, Courtney is a fourth generation farmer. Her family property is home to many heads of cattle, a bunch of horses, and acres of land for their hay company. And I (Megan) am what I like to refer to as a “wanna-be farmer.” Meaning, my husband and I watched far too many homesteading type shows, and when we moved back to Michigan a couple years ago, made it a point to buy a home on 10 acres so we could grow our current “hobby farm.” Needless to say, Courtney and I love the Michigan countryside, and barn weddings will always hold a special place in our hearts.

We immediately clicked with Alyse, and were laughing the entire time. That night, after going home and talking with her fiance Paul, she booked us for her Fenton wedding. She had mentioned during our meetup that she loved barns, and farm animals, and would love to have her engagement session on a farm. Luckily, we happen to know some great places to go for that. Paul and Alyse were gracious enough to make the trek up to the Port Huron area to Courtney’s family property, and spend the very next day with us outside in the cold for their engagement photo session. It wasn’t your typical engagement session. It involved herding cows, laughing at too-curious horses, and lots of breaks to warm up from the 20 degree weather. But it was perfect. We loved the magical element that the snow brought to the photos. We loved their quirky and hysterical love. And we cannot wait until their wedding in October where we will be their Metro Detroit wedding photographer team.

Fall Engagement Photographer | Danielle & Ronnie

We are so excited to introduce you to Danielle & Ronnie,who hired Mulberry & Sage Photography be their Fall Engagement Photographer. They are getting married October 20th, 2018. Danielle knew she wanted a fall engagement session so we put them on our calendar during the wedding photography consultation to ensure they had a great date. Unfortunately, the cold weather & rain delayed our session by almost 2 weeks, and pushed us past peak season for leaf color. Constant open communication is something we are proud to offer our couples.

We learned Danielle & Ronnie were worried about all the color being gone from the trees and a they were a little anxious for the location of their session. At Mulberry & Sage Photography, we don’t rest until we are able to give our clients exactly what they are looking for. We drove around St. Clair County until we were positive we found the perfect spot and the leaves and views did not disappoint!

Danielle’s sister did her hair, and she looked stunning. We were also a little obsessed with Ronnie’s beard 😉 It’s not all about looks though; what makes a session great is the chemistry between the couple. Danielle and Ronnie are completely in love in a adorably smitten, and couldn’t take their hands off each other. When we began shooting they mentioned never having photos taken as a couple before. It was our honor to shoot their first session. We were delighted with the results and we hope you are too!

Wedding Photography Team | Amanda & AJ Engagement Session

We were so excited that Amanda & AJ hired us as their wedding photography team. We were equally thrilled that they chose a wedding collection that included an engagement session. Engagement sessions are the absolute best way to get to know each other and we fully recommend them to all of our brides and grooms. We love meeting our couples at the consultation, but the engagement session is where we get to witness your relationship first hand. By learning your love languages, we can help you relax quicker, and get comfortable in front of the camera. Are you romantic, and love kissing poses, or snuggling up as close as possible? Maybe the thought of that makes you laugh. Perhaps you prefer the candid moments we catch in-between the poses that show the silly side of your relationship. Once we take the time to get to know you as a couple, we can guarantee a gallery full of photographs that you will love. When we see you again on your wedding day, you will be less nervous about being photographed and just focus on your wedding day and not our camera.

Amanda & AJ are getting married September 8th, 2018. We decided a fall engagement session would be perfect for them-and it was! Mother Nature gifted us with fabulous color in the trees, and beautiful weather for their engagement session. We couldn’t be any happier with how they turned out.

Professional Port Huron Photographer | Jenny & John

Last weekend, we spent the evening exploring Beard’s Hill with Jenny and John, being their Professional Port Huron Photographer. Jenny and John met when they were in high school, and have been together ever since. They have a super fun and goofy relationship with each other, and we loved being able to capture it and document their playfulness during their engagement photography session.

Fall in Michigan is a favorite of ours. While we love being on the beach during the ultra-hot days of summer, there is just something special about putting on a cozy sweater and stepping outside into the brisk fall weather. This year, we have actually had a really hot fall, thus far, however, on the day of Jenny and John’s engagement session, there was a small break from the 90 degree days, and it felt like actual, legit fall weather. (Yay!) We planned to do a sunset session up at Beard’s Hill, which provides a stunning location for a session because it’s so varied. We started out by the hiking trails and stream, and got some beautiful photos of the two of them with big giant sun rays peeking through the large trees.

We then drove up to another location within the same area, that has a large tree overhanging the river that John really liked. As I was having a fun idea for a pose that came to my mind, I asked them to sit down next to a wall that had some street art painted on it. As they were about to sit, John kicked at the ground and said, “Oops, here’s a small snake.” Like a rockstar, Jenny didn’t even hesitate to sit down right afterward and when I commended her for her bravery, she stated, “Snakes don’t bother me. Spiders do.” I laughed because I am actually the exact same way. We spent a few minutes hanging out doing photos in that spot, when I looked into my camera viewfinder to see a GIGANTIC black and yellow spider, perched precariously inches away from her head. Being not-great with hiding things, I gasped loudly and told her calmly to get up quickly, without turning her head. After she did that, she looked back and we both had our own dramatic freak out moment. I’m sure it’s something we’ll look back on and laugh about soon. But, needless to say, Jenny gets some major kudos for being adventurous and calm in the face of danger.

We ended the session as the sun went down at the top of the Beard Hill overlook. It literally feels like you’re on the top of the world, and can see the entire county from this vantage point. The trees were sun-kissed, and beginning to turn their various shades of yellow and reds for fall, and it was the perfect night for an engagement session in Port Huron. We always like to somehow incorporate the engagement ring into the elements of their engagement session, so it was perfectly fitting that John found a pretty weed that stood strong in the middle of the rocks, with a single pretty blue flower blooming proudly. It made for the perfect setting, and we really love the macro photography shot of that.

St. Clair County Engagement Photographer | Brianne & Dan

Dan and Brianne grew up in the Port Huron area but have since moved out of state for work reasons, so we were thrilled when they ventured back to the area and hired Mulberry & Sage Photography to be their St. Clair County Engagement Photographer. We are working closely with them to ensure their wedding photography is the least of their worries while planning a Port Huron Michigan wedding, all while being hundreds of miles away, physically. Our communication is always open and doesn’t stop once you hire us for the job. Planning an engagement session that reflects the couple is something we always strive for. When Brianne mentioned wanting a country-inspired engagement session, we scouted locations until we found the perfect fit. Dan is a lover of vintage trucks, and we were happy to arrange a surprise for him with habing a 1969 Chevy truck to pose alongside.

The whole engagement session was fun with easy conversation and candor. Brianne and Dan started the session a little nervous in front of the camera, having never been photographed as a couple, but by the end were practically professionals. It was so great wrapping up the session feeling like old friends. That’s honestly a massive benefit when you’re booking a professional engagement and wedding photographer. We don’t ever want you to feel uncomfortable or awkward in front of the camera with us, and booking an engagement session to get to know each other really helps alleviate any of those feelings or fears that you may have.

Brianne and Dan are planning a Port Huron wedding for the spring, and we can’t wait to hang out and catch up with them again then, as we’re so excited that they booked Mulberry & Sage to be their professional Port Huron wedding photographer.
